Brian Sterling is a native Texan, born and raised in Pasadena. He is a 1981 graduate of Deer Park High School. In 1984, he earned an Associate of Arts degree from San Jacinto College in Social Science with additional coursework in engineering, drafting and the visual arts. Brian is married to the love of his life, Norma and together they have four children.
In February 1986, Brian began his career with the City of La Porte as a drafter in the Community Development Department. Currently Brian serves the City as GIS Manager in the Planning Department. Throughout his City career, Brian has received several awards including Employee of the Quarter and Employee of the Year in 1989, Employee of the Quarter and Employee of the Year in 2002, and an award from the Texas City Managers Association for Innovation in Municipal Government for his assistance to the La Porte Police Department in crime scene investigation reconstruction utilizing computer aided drafting and design.
Brian is an accomplished portrait artist and winner of the 2007 Fallback Fest Art Show. His works include The Beatles (individually and collectively), Frank Sinatra, General Sam Houston, Marilyn Monroe, Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. He is currently painting individual portraits for $150 each to raise funds for the newly-established Sylvan Beach Art League. As president of the art league, Brian’s goal is to bring local and regional artists together with the Bayshore community to share individual and collective talents and inspirations.
Brian’s art can be seen at the Porte of Call Arts Market the 2nd Saturday of each month at Main and South 2nd Streets in historic downtown La Porte.
